“THE LEMON-AIDE LECTURES”
(MJ Gottlieb’s Opening College Curriculum Course for Entrepreneurs)
When life hands you lemons what do you do? Well…complaining certainly doesn’t help anything, and nobody really listens anyway. In business, most successful people fail their way to the top. For every successful person that you see, what you don’t see is the trail of bankruptcies, failed partnerships, and pricey mistakes that made them who they are today. One way to avoid this is to learn from the experiences of others…
MJ Gottlieb’s method of teaching people by telling them what ‘not’ to do, is hitting the road and coming to a college campus near you. Author of How To Ruin A Business Without Really Trying, MJ is planning to launch a friendly and fun five-day opening curriculum course, at various universities throughout the country, based on his experiences as a young entrepreneur.
FORMAT The series will consist of opening comments by MJ on the first day, as well as what he feels the most common mistakes are when jumping into the harsh realities of the business world for the first time. This opening lecture will be accompanied by a brief synopsis of what will be taking place in the following days and who will be sharing their experiences during this brief, fun, and informative five-day course. The second, third and fourth days will include further discussion on the mistakes talked about in the book, as well as frequent special appearances by guest speakers from a variety of different fields of business who will share their experiences as entrepreneurs, as well as what they feel are the most prevalent mistakes they made when starting their businesses. The fifth day will be an open forum, discussing similarities found in the experiences, in order to try to find a common thread of the most prevalent mistakes made in the lives of the entrepreneur. By identifying these mistakes and using them to learn from, the class will have the knowledge of such re-occurring mistakes that take place in the world of the entrepreneur, so that when they get to that point in their entrepreneurial journey, which invariably they will, they will use that knowledge to avoid making such mistakes that they would have never known had they never been taught through experience of others what ‘not’ to do. The class will, of course, use this last day to answer any questions the students may have in order that they find a closure when then upon the courses completion.
ATMOSPHERE Students will work in a fun and non-threatening atmosphere, which will enable them to get a more intimate understanding of MJ, and a glimpse into the realities of the business world, through his very approachable relaxed style and personality. The course is intended to be casual and non-traditional, as so many new business have thrived and succeeded using this open minded approach to business, and others have failed because of their stiffness and reluctance to adapting to new ideas. MJ believes that standing behind a podium in a suit and tie can be very threatening and even condescending at times, and that moving the podium aside, taking the suit off, and loosening up the tie, provides the students a chance to relax, listen and learn, and maybe even have a few laughs. The guest lecturers in each five-day course will represent a diverse cross section of today’s business world, making the experience a well-rounded, fun and entertaining tour of what really goes on in and out of the boardroom.
This will be the first opening curriculum course, which uses the methodology of what not to do, as its method of teaching.
